121 ETHIOPIA.ORG

121Ethiopia.org is currently renovating and improving an orphanage in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The name of the orphanage is Kechene Youth Care and Rehabilitation Centre, founded in 1955, and run by the local sub-city government in Addis Ababa.

Kechene is home to approximately 200 young people, aged 0-22. 121Ethiopia chooses to concentrate its relief work at Kechene, because the orphanage is in a critical condition. The roofs and ceilings leak, sanitary and kitchen facilities are insufficient, the children are packed together in small rooms, and there is a shortage of trained staff, among many other problems.

MAP OF THE AREA

The renovation of the area started at the end of 2005 and includes 8 buildings, 2 playgrounds and one surrounding brick wall. Our aim is to finish all of it by the beginning of 2008.
Under 'Realized Projects', you can see the projects already completed at Kechene.

RENOVATING WALL

Remaining renovation projects for 2007:

Following the overall renovation of the Kechene orphanage, a comprehensive upgrading of the nursing and education of all the children will be initiated. This will include staff-training programs, the employment of more skilled care mothers, the establishment of an efficient infrastructure, the introduction of personal files for each child, as well as sports clubs and notice boards.

We are happy to be able to improve the lives of these wonderful but unfortunate children and we encourage everybody to take part financially in this important project. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information about the improvement of the Kechene orphanage and how you can support it.
